Top Ten Tips For Working Mums To Achieve Work-Life Balance

1. Morning Routine - Start your day with a routine that’s just for you—not only for your family. Even small rituals, like a cup of coffee in peace or a few minutes of stretching, can set the tone for a calmer, more productive day.

2. Trusted Childcare -Having reliable childcare is key. Whether it’s a family member, friend, or a trusted nursery/childminder, knowing your little one is safe and cared for will give you peace of mind while you focus on work.

3. Family Calendar -Keep all appointments, school events, and special occasions in one shared calendar. This simple step makes life more organised and reduces last-minute stress.

4. Communication and Connection -If you work from home, take breaks to check in and play with your children. If you work away from home, send a text, make a quick call, or ask for a photo or video from a partner or friend. Staying connected keeps both you and your family reassured.

5. Supportive Employment -Talk to your manager about your needs as a working mum. Having a supportive boss and team is vital—you never know when you might need flexibility for appointments or if your child is unwell.

6. Limit Distractions -Time is precious. Avoid endless scrolling on social media and focus on your work during dedicated hours. Setting boundaries will help you finish tasks efficiently and leave work with more time for family.

7. Special Family Time - When you’re not working, create meaningful moments with your family. Board games, walks, or even just cosy evenings together can build lasting memories and strengthen bonds.

8. Nurture Your Relationship -It’s easy to forget that your partner is a person too! Arrange regular date nights, even if it’s just once a month, to maintain your relationship alongside parenting and work responsibilities.

9. Catch Up with Friends -Make time for friendships. A coffee, lunch, or chat with a friend who makes you laugh can provide perspective, joy, and support. Chances are, they’re navigating similar challenges.

10. Me-Time - Don’t forget yourself. Even short moments—reading a book, taking a bath, going for a walk, or getting your nails done—can recharge you. Looking after yourself means you’re better able to look after others.
